The ancient world is divided into four nations: Water Tribe, Earth Kingdom, Fire Nation, and Air Nomads. Among each of these groups lies a special individuals with the power to manulipate forces of nature, called benders. Each generation there is a special bender that will learn the ability to control all four forces of nature. This person is know as The Avatar, and is said to be the living soul of the earth in human form.

Nickelodeon's series takes us on the adventure of young air bender, Aang, who is told he is the Avatar. In the midsts of an on-coming war, he flees his home on his flying biason, Appa. While flying oversea, he is forced into the water by a storm. To protect himself and Appa, he waterbends to encase them both into large blocks of ice. There they remain frozen for a century.

Aang is thawed out by waterbender siblings Katara and Sokka. In his time away, he learns that the Fire Nation has taken control over much of land. Under the command of Fire Lord Sozen, the Fire Nation continues to push further for domination. Aang realizes, as the Avatar, it is his responsibility to restore balance among the nations. With Katara, Sokka, Appa, and winged-lemur, Momo, Aang leads the group around the world, learning from the masters.

"Avatar: The Last Airbender" is a departure from Nickelodeon's usual comedic fare. With a serial storytelling style and more dramatic tones, capturing the imaginations of children and adults. Critically acclaimed, the series is now enterting its second season.
